JDoE HRE workshops

A second series of human rights education workshops in collaboration with the national department of education was held in Free State province. About 80 learners and 20 educators attended the workshop as target audience.

Emanuel Maphosa from UP student group and Sarah Motha co facilitated the workshop. DoE was responsible for material printing, accommodation for participants and facilitators, transport for participants and DoE officials.

AI was responsible for content, transport and contingencies for facilitators. Follow ups: on 15 DoE officials who want to join AI, getting updates on HRE Provincial Arts Festival initiative in Free State, request for copies for the Darfur DVD. At the end of the series a report in form of a reflection paper will be compiled and will be disseminated soon as it becomes available.

5. REAP Evaluation for 2006

The workshop has been postponed due to the fact that towards finalization of the programme we learnt that some of the participants may not be able to attend. The current proposed date is 20th – 22nd April 2007.

6. HRE newsletter

The newsletter was printed after it was disseminated electronically in December 2006.  It still has to be sent to REAP regional HRE coordinators in KwaZulu Natal, Western Cape and Limpopo.
7. Website Update

We updated the www.hre.org.za website with the following information:

    *    Interview with Alinka Brutsch,
    *    10 candles for International women’s day news item sent by Lesley,
    *    Debate on Rape by Chantel Cooper from Rape Crisis,

    *    Calendar events were updates such as the change for the 2006 evaluation workshop.

In this regard we also request advice on how we can improve the website, quotes, news, calendar events, what menu items, features and material you would like to see on the website.

“Founded on love, humility, and faith, dialogue becomes a horizontal relationship of mutual trust. Trust is established by dialogue; it cannot exist unless the work both parties coincide with their actions”
